In Small World, players vie for conquest and control of a world that is simply too small to accommodate them all.

Designed by Philippe Keyaerts as a fantasy follow-up to his award-winning Vinciâ„¢, Small World is inhabited by a zany cast of characters such as dwarves, wizards, amazons, giants, orcs and even humans; who use their troops to occupy territory and conquer adjacent lands in order to push the other races off the face of the earth.

Picking the right combination from the 14 different fantasy races and 20 unique special powers, players rush to expand their empires - often at the expense of weaker neighbors. Yet they must also know when to push their own over-extended civilization into decline and ride a new one to victory!

Sounds like it should be easy to rule the world eh? It is except for the other races who want to keep it for their greedy selves.

Components:The game pieces consist of bright, heavy duty cardboard counters that came off the sheets perfectly.  No tearing or crappy edges. The boards are very nice and the artwork is excellent.

Storage: The storage system Days of wonder included for the game is top notch. A plastic tray with molded areas for every piece. The rulebook even details where every piece goes!

Rules: The rules are extremely straight forward, cleanly laid out, and there are numerous illustrated examples throughout.

Gameplay: The numerous combination of special abilities and races possible mean that it is very unlikely that you will see the same combination in back to back games. The concept is simple: You have to control conquer land to gain victory coins. the one with the most coins win at the end of the game. Unlike other games like this you do NOT have to rely on the race you chose at the beginning all the way through. Once you feel they can no longer aid you, you put them in decline and chose another race and come back onto the board. Very interesting concept.

Overall: This is one of the first games in 2 years that I have enjoyed enough to actually make the time to play in the store. For those of you who know me this says alot.

The game looks awesome indeed, but when I tried to read the rules the other night, they didn't make sense to me. I have to come to play a game with you (but you seemed to be pretty busy for that on Friday). Coming from the pub may not have helped my understanding though Smiley
